How To Apply For International Passport In Nigeria

This is a detailed guide on how to apply for International Passport in Nigeria.

It is the dream of most Nigerians to travel out of the country. The need to travel out of the country might be for business, tourism, education or to visit a family member or friend in a foreign country.

Whichever reason you may have, traveling out of Nigeria is only possible when you have a valid Nigerian international passport.

Hence, in this guide, I will show you the types of international passports in Nigeria, requirements for Nigerian international passport, how to get a new Nigerian international passport, and how to apply for an international passport in Nigeria.

Nigerian International Passport

An international passport is a formal document or certification issued by the government of a country, showing that the holder of the document is a citizen of its country and has the right to be protected in his country of destination whilst also having the right to return to the country where he is a citizen.

The international passport is a small booklet containing information like the holder’s name, date of birth, photo for identification, signature, the passport’s issue date, and date of expiry.

The Nigerian passport provides an opportunity for a Nigerian to enjoy their travels outside the country, avoiding an embarrassing situation with the authorities of the country you travel to.

With a Nigerian international passport, you can travel and explore anywhere in the world provided you have the correct visa.

Many countries require people traveling into their country to obtain a visa, which is an approval on the passport showing that it has been examined by the relevant authorities and its holder is free to proceed.

With this visa, the holder of the passport is allowed to remain in the country for a specific period of time.

The Nigerian international passport is however different from the Economic Community Of West African State (ECOWAS) passport which only allows free entry into the 15 ECOWAS member nations.

Ordinary Nigerian citizens are required to apply for the standard e-passport (green cover) while government officials and Nigerian diplomats should possess the official e-passport (blue cover).

A 32-page Nigerian passport is issued to people who do not travel very often while it is advisable to apply for a 64-page passport if you are required to travel very regularly outside Nigeria.
