Many countries require people traveling into their country to obtain a visa, which is an approval on the passport showing that it has been examined by the relevant authorities and its holder is free to proceed.
With this visa, the holder of the passport is allowed to remain in the country for a specific period of time.
The Nigerian international passport is however different from the Economic Community Of West African State (ECOWAS) passport which only allows free entry into the 15 ECOWAS member nations.
Ordinary Nigerian citizens are required to apply for the standard e-passport (green cover) while government officials and Nigerian diplomats should possess the official e-passport (blue cover).

Requirements For International Passport in Nigeria
To apply for a Standard International Passport in Nigeria, there are certain required documents that you must possess.
The required documents differ if you are applying for a Fresh (First) Passport or a Re-Issuance of Passport.
New (Fresh) Passport Application is those who have not applied for a Nigerian international passport before, and are applying for the first time.

Fresh Nigerian Passport Application Requirements
The requirements for applying for a fresh international passport in Nigeria are different for those who are citizens of Nigeria either by Birth, Naturalization, or Registration.

Citizenship By Birth
Adult (18 years and above)
1. A Letter or certificate of identification from your Local Government, or State of origin or residence. Or for a government employee, a letter of introduction as a Nigerian citizen stating Service Number, Length of Service, and Designation/Rank.
The letter must come with a valid staff identity card.
2. Completed passport application form and 2 passports sized photographs, signed at back by the Guarantor
3. The completed Guarantor’s form (with a photocopy of the data page of Guarantor’s Nigerian e-passport and a passport-size photograph of the Guarantor)
4. Marriage certificate (If needed).
5. Birth Certificate or Age Declaration

Minor (under 18 years of age)
1. Completed passport application form attached with 1 passport photograph of minor to be signed on the reverse side by the consenting parent/s.
2. Evidence of Nigerian citizenship of parent/s;

If the child was adopted, a valid court order and letter of approval from the State Ministry of Women and Child Development are required.
